Starting a family, or at least trying: Radio resources on an important and sensitive topic for families

Gender equalityHealthSocial issues

Theme pack

There are many myths and taboos surrounding the ability – or inability – to get pregnant. This is a sensitive topic, with many emotions involved, particularly for those who have struggled to get pregnant or who have experienced a loss. There is also a lot of stigma and shame, particularly for women, connected to these issues, making it a gender equality issue. It takes two to get pregnant, yet one usually bears more of the blame and burden whether successful or not.

In this month’s theme pack, we share several interview and drama scripts to help you discuss pregnancy and infertility. Two of the interview scripts are excellent episodes produced by members of our network as part of our “HÉRÈ – Bien-être des femmes au Mali” project in Mali. We also encourage you to read our Broadcaster how-to guide on Addressing sensitive issues, or follow our online learning module on the same topic
